A new Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) report from the National Association of PET Container Resources (NAPCOR) shows that PET plastic bottles provide “significant environmental savings” compared to aluminum and glass bottles.

NAPCOR also notes that the report is based on an assessment of the environmental benefits and trade-offs of a product throughout its life cycle, from raw material extraction to materials production, use, reuse or recycling (where applicable) and final disposal.
The report looks at some of the most commonly used containers for carbonated soft drinks and still water. It compared PET, glass, and aluminum containers for carbonated soft drinks and still water drinks, and used a peer review process that validated the methodology and results over an eight-month period.
